How do you practice empathy? How do you lead with empathy in your area of expertise? In this training workshop, Dr. Camaya Wallace Bechard and Karena LaPlace of Illinois Extension will expand your understanding of empathy and demonstrate various techniques for practicing empathy within your teams.

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

At this professional development event, recent new hires will be introduced to one another and some senior managers. Topics will include the structure of the university and Student Affairs, the leadership of Illini Union, workplace rules at Illini Union and the university, payroll and benefits, training and development and staying safe.

POSTPONED: This in-person workshop will illustrate how microaggressions and unconscious bias can occur in the workplace, and affect female and minority staff disproportionately. The 2-part workshop will also include coverage of how to identify, deal with and prevent future instances of unconscious bias and microaggressions.

Advanced registration is required, attendance costs $350 per participant and spaces are limited in this program.

ANCRA training is mandatory for all University of Illinois staff and must be renewed every 3 years. All staff are required to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). If you still need to complete this training, you can attend this face-to-face training session. This training must be completed by March 28.

This training will include a practical exercise on the use of fire extinguishers, where participants will use extinguishers and a simulator. The training will also include a PowerPoint presentation about the uses and suitability of various types of fire extinguishers. Please register in advance.

An intensive training program designed to provide university employees with the opportunity to acquire and strengthen cultural competencies, awareness, and skills. A $400 fee applies and space is available on a first come, first served basis. Please obtain supervisor approval if necessary and register in advance.

The Racial Justice Allies and Advocates Training program is designed to provide staff with a core awareness of race and racism in deeper ways, promote racial justice, and dismantle systems of oppression through an interactive and peer-facilitated workshop.
