About This Event

While the tech industry has grown exponentially over the past several decades, Black workers remain disproportionately underrepresented at both leading tech companies and the venture capital firms investing in tech startups.

In this panel, we will hear stories from Black leaders in tech on the unique challenges of being Black in tech. Our incredible panel will share stories of their professional journey, and discuss the sometimes smooth, sometimes rocky road to developing a successful career in tech.

Additionally, we dive into how all of us can work together across education, hiring and investing to create a tech ecosystem where Black people are represented and can thrive.

Please note that by signing up for this event, you agree to share your email with our partners.

Preparation

This event is taken completely online via Zoom. + You will need access to a laptop or computer with strong internet connection. + Event set up information will be emailed to all signed up the day before the event launches.

Founder, #HIREBLACK

Niani is a marketer-turned-tech recruiter-turned founder of the #HIREBLACK Initiative. #HIREBLACK started as a viral LinkedIn post requesting help in offering 19 Black womxn to receive resume feedback on Juneteenth, and grew into an initiative whose goal is to help 10,000 Black womxn get trained and hired promoted in corporate positions. #HIREBLACK is now a network of 15,000 people and counting featured on Forbes and ESSENCE.

Since its inception, #HIREBLACK has worked with companies like Amazon, Disney, Conde Nast, Niantic, Spotify, Uber, and more. Their resources have reportedly increased the total compensation of the HIREBLACK members by over $1.2 million.

Her work has garnered praise and recognition, and she won the Essence x Pine-Sol Build Your Legacy Contest in 2021. In 2021, Niani won the Future of Work grant by Create & Cultivate, was an honoree of the Future is Female award by Advertising Week, and was an honoree of the Diversity and Inclusion Award from the Women's Empowerment Institute in 2020.

About Our Partners

What started as a Linkedin post to help 19 Black womxn with resume review sessions on Juneteenth has evolved into an initiative serving a network of 5,500 people and counting. While we no longer do resume review matching (we matched over 300 Black womxn with Recruiters and Hiring Managers at top companies for this!) - We now offer exclusive events, resources and an invite-only member portal designed for the career advancement of Black womxn and their supporters.

Black womxn already face systemic obstacles at getting jobs, and with the job market now more competitive than ever, we are providing support to those who often get overlooked.
