Thank you for your interest in the Collaborative Book Club featuring The Beginning and End of Rape: Confronting Sexual Violence in Native America by legal scholar Sara Deer (Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma). The Book Club is a collaboration between the Native American House (NAH) and Women's Resources Center (WRC) and is connected to larger programmatic efforts by NAH (MMIR Red Regalia Project) and WRC (April: Sexual Violence Awareness Month).

The Collaborative Book Club intends to bring together individuals from different identities and experiences to discuss their reflections and responses to a shared book on a social justice-related topic. The NAH and WRC seek to hold space for readings that affect Native and Indigenous communities.

Due to the content of this text, Confidential Advisors will be available during and after the book club meeting to assist in supporting students. We ask that all participants work to take on a trauma-informed approach as we discuss this text together. Participants will be encouraged to practice self-care during and after our time together.

The Book Club will meet on Friday, April 19, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the WRC (616 E Green St #202, Champaign).

The first 30 registrants will receive a FREE copy of the book. Upon signup, you will receive a confirmation email from NAH or WRC to confirm your registration and to indicate if you are eligible to receive a book copy (email will come from the unit where you intend to pick up your book).

If you have questions, please email Dr. Charlotte E. Davidson, Director of the Native American House, at drchar@illinois.edu or Amie Baumeister, Assistant Director, Gender Equity, Women's Resources Center, at baumstr2@illinois.edu
