On October 4 at 12:00pm CST, through Zoom, join us for Dr. Maya Tudor's lecture, "Varieties of Nationalism and Democratic Consequences." Dr. Tudor asks: when is nationalism a resource for democracy? Both nationalism and democracy conceptually build on a concept of "we the people." Yet both public discourse and some scholarship assumes the empirical relationship between nationalism and democracy to be inimical--or that democracy is undermined by the rise of nationalism. In her next book project, Dr. Tudor empirically investigates this relationship and suggests that specific types of founding national narratives are more likely to undermine democracy.
