All Illinois researchers are invited to attend a lecture and reception with Dr. Annette Fenner, Chief Editor of Nature Reviews Urology, on Tuesday, May 2, at 3 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to connect and learn first-hand how to write and position their research to maximize the chances of having it published.

Learn about IGB research, hear about current issues in the life sciences, and connect with others at the poster session at the 2023 Fellows Symposium.

We will reflect on the material we have learned over the previous sessions, and leverage it to build an inclusive research team that gets the best out of everybody. These sessions have helped us develop some of the interpersonal skills needed to handle problematic encounters, carve out spaces for ourselves, and build more just systems on a small scale.

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Modeling (CAIM) monthly working group facilitates the matching of biological problems to quantitative methods, covering such topics as single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, biomolecular networks in space and time explored using single-cell biophysics, microbiome dynamics and methods for control, and cancer genomics.

Screening & Discussion on the documentary “First To Go: Story of the Kataoka Family” on Friday, May 12th, 2-3pm CT The film comes from Director Matsuno’s family history about Japanese American Incarceration. He will then share a lecture about “The Power of Personal Story: From Home Film to Educational Tool”. Professor Po-shek Fu (UIUC) will chair the Q&A session.

After a private screening of his film, “First To Go: Story of the Kataoka Family” , Myles Matsuno will discuss the significance of home footage, the courage to be vulnerable, and the importance of the generations who paved the way before us, while recognizing and confronting the injustices of our past to ensure a better future.

5/16/2023: Seminar Overview: Many medical disorders are underdiagnosed or are incorrectly diagnosed, causing both financial burden and unnecessary suffering. This work addresses the problem by developing accessible, inexpensive, online, automated disease screening techniques based on highly-available human signals, particularly speech and language.

GNDP is hosting a monthly reading group the 3rd Tuesday of each month on spatial transcriptomics this semester. The goal is to learn about this new technology, with a focus on how it can be applied to address new questions in brain and behavior.
