Vet Med Unleashed: A speaker series sponsored by the iLearning Center at the Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary medicine is a rewarding yet high-stress profession that requires intentional strategies to cultivate well-being and thriving working and learning environments. This interactive workshop introduces the science of positive psychology and the PERMA model of well-being (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) and explores its application within veterinary medicine. Drawing from systems-informed frameworks and current research, participants will engage in experiential exercises, reflective practice, and discussion to identify practical ways to enhance flourishing in their personal and professional lives, as well as within their organizations and systems in the veterinary profession.

🔹 Virginia Kiefer Corrigan, DVM, MAPP, MPH, Diplomate ABVP (Canine/Feline), CCRP, CHPV
Dr. Virginia Kiefer Corrigan is Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Interprofessional Education at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a 2025–2026 Fulbright U.S. Scholar to the University of Melbourne, where she will collaborate with the Centre for Wellbeing Science on integrating systems-informed positive psychology into veterinary education. Dr. Corrigan completed the Master of Applied Positive Psychology program at the University of Pennsylvania in 2024, where her capstone project, The Future of Flourishing in Veterinary Medicine, explored frameworks to enhance systemic wellbeing in veterinary education. She has published and presented widely on veterinary education, wellbeing, and positive leadership, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Veterinary Leadership Institute. Her passion and purpose meet when she is actively supporting and illuminating the next generation of veterinary professionals, because they make the world a better place. Outside of work, she enjoys spending her time with her three young children, husband, four legged family members (Tucker, a 10-year old Golden Retriever, and Kiwi, a sweet and geriatric 19 year old DSH cat), and taking family adventures in the great outdoors.
