Reliable emergency communications depend on more than the emergency phone itself. Communication infrastructure, system oversight, testing, and long-term planning all play a role in supporting emergency response across campus environments.
As communication technologies continue to evolve and traditional phone lines are retired, higher education institutions are evaluating how to maintain reliability, support compliance, and prepare for future communication needs. This session explores the key considerations facilities teams should evaluate to strengthen emergency communication readiness across their campuses.
Key topics include:
- What's changing in campus emergency communications
- Evaluating emergency communication systems
- Testing, system oversight, and long-term planning
- A practical framework for improving emergency communication readiness

Monthly Safety Training
Required monthly safety training sessions are sent to staff directly through the Grainger Learning Management System (GLMS). The GLMS platform allows employees to see their specific training dashboard as well as gives supervisory staff an enhanced way to track and record engagement and completion.
Staff will see emails from alerts_graingerlms@icertainty.com when new trainings are available. You can access GLMS and assigned training at fands.icertainty.com using your netID and password.
For questions regarding monthly safety training, please contact Safety & Compliance at oshs@illinois.edu.
