The rise of GenAI has prompted a renewed examination of how writing technologies shape writers, especially novice and developing writers maneuvering through higher education institutions. This presentation explores how generative AI is shaping undergraduate writers’ writing processes and their perceptions of their writing identities. Drawing from student interviews, observations, and survey data, it examines how GenAI technologies are influencing different aspects of writing, such as revision practices, writing confidence, and writing invention. These conversations will discuss how educators can respond to students’ use of GenAI to support critical learning, writing integrity, and student agency.
