Karen Kramer, Associate Professor in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her talk, "Gender Inequality and Leave Policies: A Cross-National Comparison" will be in-person and also offered virtually through Zoom. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. If you have any questions, please contact Anita Kaiser at arkaiser@illinois.edu or (217) 333-6221.
In this proposed talk Dr Kramer suggests examining gender inequality through the lens of work family policy, drawing on her research that is conducted across multiple national contexts, including Australia, South Korea, Germany, and the United States. Rather than viewing gender differences in the work and family domains that lead to inequality as an individual preference or family choice, her research highlights how government and organizational policies and institutional structures, opportunities and constraints are playing a major part in gender inequality.
