Few-body physics in ion-neutral hybrid systems

Abstract: This talk will present our last results on few-body physics involving a single ion interacting with a bath of atoms or molecules. In particular, we will focus on ion-atom-atom three-body recombination reactions and our recent study on ion-Feshbach dimers reactive processes. We will identify the main reaction mechanisms of a charged impurity in a bath via classical trajectory calculations and a quasi-classical trajectory approach. In the same vein, we will introduce the experiments performed to check some of our predictions leading to new and intriguing results such as novel ways to detect molecules or form molecular ions

Bio: Jesús Pérez Ríos earned his BS from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2008 and his Ph D. at the same institution in 2012. As a group leader, he joined the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in 2019. In 2020, He joined the faculty at Stony Brook in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. His research is focused on theoretical atomic and molecular processes relevant to different disciplines of physics and chemistry, such as condensed matter physics, high energy physics, and chemical physics. In addition, J. Pérez Ríos has published a book entitled “An introduction to cold and ultracold chemistry: atoms, molecules, ions and Rydbergs,” published by Springer in 2020.
