Free community workshop introducing Afro-Brazilian drumming traditions, including samba, samba-reggae, and maracatu, will be offered by the Robert E. Brown Center for World Music (external link), Capoeira Angola Center of Mestre João Grande – Illinois (external link), and the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures. This workshops are hosted by the Global Arts Performance Initiatives and the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures.

The first workshop will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 2:00 pm–3:30 pm and the second workshop will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2:00 pm–3:30 pm.

The workshop is led by Mark Becker, a Capoeira Angola student of Contra-Mestre Denis Chiaramonte, and a musician experienced with samba 'blocos' in both Brazil & the United States.
