Faculty Seminar Series on Teaching & Learning
Theme: "The Art of the Engaging, Responsive Lecture"
Instructors “can improve student learning with a series of modest but powerful changes that make a big difference; many of which can be put into practice in a single class period” (J. Lang, Small Teaching).
Come join us as we explore a number of these strategies and approaches in “The Art of the Engaging, Responsive Lecture”

You are invited to join a dynamic learning community by participating in this specially designed workshop series for all faculty (across all disciplines and rank). We’ll share strategies and best practices from research-based pedagogy. Come and meet new colleagues. Great conversations and handouts guaranteed.
Session 3: Being Innovative and Creative: Best Tips and Strategies for Designing a Class Session
The lecture mode is the oldest teaching method and the traditional lecture method is the most widely used across the world (Smith & Valentine, 2012). However, when compared to other teaching methods, it is often not as effective in areas such as student retention of information, transfer of knowledge, and problem-solving.
Come join this session as you transform a traditional lecture to an innovative, engaging teaching and learning opportunity. With some easy to implement powerful changes, your students will learn more and be engaged.
*This workshop counts towards completion of any of CITL's Teaching Certificates. To learn more about our Teaching Certificate program please visit https://go.illinois.edu/teaching_certificates.
Please mark these dates on your calendar. We hope that you will be able to participate in all the sessions in this series.
