CITL's Master Course in Online Teaching (MCOT) is a deep dive into online teaching strategies that extend what was presented at the Online Teaching Academy (2020) and the Illinois Summer Teaching Institute (2021). Prior participation in either instructional development series is not required but professional experience with university level instruction is strongly encouraged.

This synchronous version of MCOT will be limited to a small cohort to form our supportive learning community. The course contains 4 modules which have a modest weekly time commitment of approximately 4 - 5 hours. We will explore the following topics:

  • Module 1 - Designing Your Online Course
  • Module 2 - Developing Your Learning Community
  • Module 3 - Adapting Best Teaching Practices to Your Online Course
  • Module 4 - Motivating Your Students to Excel

Certificates will be presented to those who complete all course requirements.

  • Complete each module deliverable
  • Complete each Tech Tools assignment
  • Attend 3 of 4 synchronous course meetings

Teaching Excellence - Topics addressed in this workshop relate to the following elements of the Definition of Teaching Excellence at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign:

  • Well-designed
  • Well-delivered
  • Inclusive and ethical
  • Reflective and evolving

Join us as we learn together from online teaching experts from around the world and right here at Illinois. The course opens on Monday March 7, 2022, and our synchronous meetings occur at 11:30am - 1:00pm on the following four Wednesdays - March 23 & 30 and April 6 & 13.

Please register only if you can commit to the above dates and the estimated weekly time commitment. If you would like to participate at your own pace, contact David Favre to connect with the upcoming eText.
