Sewn in Memory: AIDS Quilt Panels from Central Illinois, at the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures, features over a dozen quilt panels originally made in the 1980s and early 1990s for the AIDS Memorial Quilt, in Washington, DC. Each of the panels commemorates a person who died of AIDS, or of an AIDS-related ailment.

In Search of Lost Time: The study of Earth history and chronology from the 18th to the 21st century — RBML's Spring Exhibition in collaboration with the Department of Geology, on view from 1/24 - 6/22, 2022. This exhibit explores concepts of time, chronology, and history that form the lens through which Earth scientists view, understand, and interpret a dynamic planet.

Registration is now open for the UIUC Astronomy Department’s Girls’ Astronomy Summer Camp! This two-day camp for rising 10th and 11th graders focuses on hands-on astronomy projects, including working with real astronomy data and a tour of UIUC’s historic observatory. Registration is free, and the camp runs from June 21-22 from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM.

Despite advances in artificial neural networks, extracting salient information from images and reasoning about it like people do remains a challenge. This talk will describe a new computational model of human primary visual cortex (visual area V1) that represents the basic elements of shape in the same way human visual architecture does.
