We'll kick off the summer course design series with an overview of backward design, a simple course design method that will help you ensure proper alignment of objectives, assessments, and activities within your course.

This interactive session provides tools for a student-centered approach to create a classroom environment that promotes self-efficacy and inclusivity. This session will delve into strategies and perspectives to create a welcoming learning community and environment.

Learning objectives are the foundation of a good course. You must be clear about these objectives so you can build a course that helps students achieve them. In this workshop, you’ll get some practice using Bloom’s Taxonomy to set objectives at the appropriate level, and you’ll learn about other important aspects of crafting good learning objectives.

This workshop will build upon our discussion of backward course design and alignment to design assessments that are appropriate to achieve the learning goals in your classroom.

In this workshop, we’ll help you develop strategies to: 1)minimize bias in your grading, 2)break up big assignments into smaller chunks so students can learn from the process, 3) offer concise but helpful feedback on student writing, and 4) help students self-evaluate.

Active learning is critical to student engagement and retention of material. In this workshop, you will learn about ways to help your students actively engage with course material to achieve the learning goals of your course.
