Join KAM Education Center Coordinator Ishita Dharap for a virtual tour exploring the theme of immigration and discover stories of identity and belonging through artworks.
During this Welcoming Week 2021 program, you can tell your own story of belonging through a hands-on art activity. The virtual tour will explore themes of immigration and migration through art at Krannert Art Museum. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and reflect on your own experiences as we look closely at what it means to belong to a place, and for a place to belong to you.
Artists we’ll discuss are: Hector Duarte, Alejandro Lugo, Joseph Leboits, Kenji Nakahashi, and Wosene Worke Kosrof.
Registration is required for this virtual event, conducted via Zoom | Register Online
Krannert Art Museum endeavors to be accessible to all. This virtual event will be in English and closed captioned via Zoom. If you have questions or would like to request an accessibility accommodation, please email email@example.com
About Welcoming Week 2021
Welcoming Week is an annual campaign and celebration started by Welcoming America in 2012. This movement is organized and supported by communities all around the country who are striving to make their homes a more welcoming place for all, including immigrants.
In 2020, a national campaign titled Belonging Begins With Us was launched by Welcoming America in partnership with the Ad Council and American Immigration Council’s Center for Inclusion and Belonging. Belonging Begins With Us aims to foster a more welcoming world where everyone — regardless of their background — can belong.
Welcoming Week 2021 seeks to make welcoming and belonging more than just a feeling, but an action we can all take. From virtual events to in person events; from celebrations at the park to game nights; from live music and dancing to arts and crafts - Champaign County always finds a way to unite and celebrate the diversity that makes us unique!
