Systematic reviews require a careful and structured approach to reviewing existing literature and identifying new insights. As scholarly publications continue to grow rapidly across disciplines, AI tools offer new ways for researchers to keep up with the expanding literature. Today, many AI tools are marketed as “research assistants” for evidence synthesis, but their capabilities and effectiveness vary widely. Choosing the right tools and using them at the right stages of the review process matters.
This presentation introduces how AI tools work and explores practical ways they can support different stages of the systematic review process. Topics include:
- AI for systematic reviews
- Methods for evaluating AI tools
- When to use AI tools, and when not to
- Use cases
Participants are encouraged to bring their own use cases to share with the group.

In order to attend online workshops, you will need a NetID assigned to you from the University of Illinois and you will need to be logged into your Illinois Zoom account.
