As a result of recent technological, surveillance, and methodological advances, many scientific fields have swapped the problem of working with limited data to figuring out what data to use out of the plenty that’s available, and what data to collect of the plethora of collection methods. The area of vector borne disease modeling is facing such a challenge, with increased sampling efforts of important vectors like mosquitoes and ticks and a rapidly growing body of ecological data for relevant variables, like weather patterns and land usage, providing a wealth of information with which modelers can map and predict vector distribution and the potential human health consequences. With all this data, and the potential to collect much, much more, the two key questions for vector borne disease modelers have become: will the data be good, and will it make a difference? This seminar seeks to explore these questions and how they apply to vector borne disease modeling.
