Whether you are from a hot region or cold region of the world, thriving in Illinois winter can be a tad bit difficult. Join Global Communications, Illinois International, and McKinley Health Center for a fun afternoon of ice skating at the University of Illinois Ice Arena! In addition to skating, we’ll share practical tips and resources for weathering the winter in Illinois. Representatives from McKinley Health Center and other campus partners will also provide information on how to stay safe, healthy, and warm during the colder months. Both, students and their families are encouraged to attend. Participants can walk in anytime during the duration of the event.

Skate rental is included, and a mini-skating lesson will be provided. Hot chocolate and light snacks will be available to help you warm up after your time on the ice.

This free event is open to international students, scholars, and their dependents (ages 10+). Registration is required. Whether you’re new to skating or an experienced pro, come chill with us at Weathering the Winter. Don't just survive the Illinois winter, thrive in it!

Important Notes:

  • Participants must acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of ice skating. Waiver forms will be provided and must be signed before you can step on the ice.
  • Registration is required as the Ice Arena has a maximum capacity.
  • For first-time or beginner skaters, you may want to watch this five-minute introductory resource video beforehand: https://mediaspace.illinois.edu/media/t/1_5kk3djbw. This will provide a basic overview on how to properly tie skates for those who are new or inexperienced with skating.
