Supporting International Students Workshop

With over 12,000 international students from more than 120 countries, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is one of the most globally diverse campuses in the country. Faculty, staff, advisors, and instructors all play a crucial role in helping international students succeed- but navigating that role can be complex.

This session offers practical guidance and foundational knowledge for campus professionals who work with international students. Topics will include common challenges international students face- such as immigration regulations, academic expectations, language barriers, cultural adjustment, and emotional well-being- as well as the campus and community resources available to support them. Attendees will also gain clarity on their own role in helping students navigate these challenges with empathy and confidence.

Advisors, staff, instructors (including graduate teaching assistants), and others in student-facing roles who want to better understand and support international students- all are welcome to attend this event.
