This workshop is the first session in the Intercultural Conflict Series, which explores how culture shapes the way conflict is experienced, expressed, and managed.
Part 1 focuses on building foundational understanding. Participants examine what makes conflict intercultural and explore key factors that influence how misunderstandings arise, including ambiguity, language, face, power, and context. The session also introduces major cultural dimensions—such as individualism and collectivism, power distance, sense of self, and communication context—and how they shape differing expectations around disagreement across cultures.
This session emphasizes awareness and shared language rather than problem-solving and provides important context for navigating conflict more effectively in intercultural settings.
This session is strongly recommended for participants planning to attend Part 2 (Navigating Intercultural Conflict: Styles, Strategies, and Applied Practice).
Open to faculty, staff, and international scholars. Registration is required!
