Aynita riqsisunchik – Let’s meet Ayni

In this presentation we will learn about Ayni, the E-textbook of Southern Quechua for beginners that the QINTI (Quechua Innovation and Teaching Initiative) project is developing. Through a communicative approach, Ayni seeks to teach the diversity of the Chanca, Collao, and Bolivian varieties, through their shared basis. These Quechua varieties, in addition to being mutually intelligible, share a huge cultural base. For this reason, it is possible to teach Southern Quechua in the same way as other international languages such as Spanish or English: From a broad, transregional, and international perspective.

In addition to presenting the motivations for undertaking this project, we will present the methodology behind the design of the communicative, lexical and grammatical contents of this book. Finally, we will reflect on the target audience of this type of book, the importance of collaboration between Quechua speakers from different nations, and what is the potential that Ayni and the QINTI Project (qinti.org) have to help Quechua teachers and students in the Andean countries and beyond using open access digital materials.
