To celebrate Hinamatsuri this year, Japan House is holding two special sessions with activities highlighting ways that Hinamatsuri is enjoyed. Space is limited to 22 people per session. All guests must have a registered ticket to enter due to limited space inside.
Japan House will be beautifully embellished with handcrafted decorations, including a Hinadan, a traditional multi-tiered display of dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in the traditional court dress of the Heian era (794-1185). There will be an opportunity to take a photo with our Hinadan doll display seated next to our very own live Emperor and Empress, make a Hinamatsuri-themed ikebana arrangement, and enjoy a bowl of matcha and special wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) called sakura castella and hanami dango.
$25 for students, children (ages 5+), and Tomonokai members, $30 for general public/adults. Two times are available: 12:00 pm and 1:30pm.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Japan House is located in the Arboretum at the University of Illinois at 2000 S. Lincoln Avenue between Kirby/Florida and Windsor Road. Parking is available in the lot to the north of Japan House (F-31 at St. Mary's Road and Lincoln) and to the south of Japan House (F-32 on Lincoln across from the Vet Med complex). After 5pm and weekends all parking spaces are free.
There are bike racks near both parking lots. The MTD Silver comes near Japan House on Lincoln Ave.
The front door is located on the north side of the building. Please allow plenty of time to park and get to the front door so we may start on time.
Can children participate in this event?
Yes! We welcome children ages 5+ to participate in this event. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please purchase an adult ticket and child ticket for each individual in attendance. Because of limited space inside with the activities, observers are also required to purchase a ticket in order to enter.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes, if space allows, you may transfer your registration to a different time. Transfers must be requested at least 24 hours before the date of your initial reservation.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You do not have to bring your ticket. We will just need your name.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
The purchaser of the ticket can go to "My Tickets" and change the name to whomever will be attending.
What if I want to purchase more than 10 tickets or schedule a special group?
We are happy to work with you to process a large group order if space is available. Please email japanhouse@illinois.edu.
What is the refund policy?
You registration is refundable if you contact us at japanhouse@illinois.edu at least 24 hours before the date of your reservation. Please note that EventBrite fees are non-refundable.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
