In the 1950s North Dakota’s Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara tribes faced their worst 20th century crisis – the building of a dam that flooded more than a quarter of the reservation, including the precious agricultural lands. This talk tells how Congress tried to use the money that was to pay the tribes for the taken lands to bribe them into giving up their political relationship with the U.S.
