Join the International and Area Studies Library for a monthly discussion of international novels and short stories selected by area specialist librarians.
For the month of September the club will be discussing "Too Loud a Solitude" by Czech novelist Bohumil Hrabal.
Explore Eastern Europe through a novel that “celebrates the power and the indestructibility of the written word.” Written during a time when Czechoslovak authorities were trying to purge library collections of books and authors that did not fit their ideological orthodoxy and were to be silenced, this novel was self-published in 1976 due to political censorship, and officially published in 1989.
Discussion will be lead by Central European Studies Librarian Prof. Marek Sroka.
