Please join us on Thursday November 12, 4:00-5:30pm (Central) for a free online workshop open to all language educators: "Motivate Your Students with Real-Life Tasks and Scenarios"

Webinar description: Beginning with the novice level, giving learners the opportunity to see how their language skills can be used in the real world is an important element of motivation. In this session, participants will be introduced to examples of scenarios used in beginning and intermediate Russian classes, including a simulated day in St. Petersburg, a lesson in which students imagine themselves working in a clothing store in Russia, and a lesson in which they learn to go shopping in Russia. The session will include practical ideas for finding and modifying authentic materials as well as creating visuals for scenario lessons. Participants will also see behind the scenes of how to create these scenarios with H5P, a free tool.

About the presenter: Shannon Donnally Spasova is an Assistant Professor of Russian and Technology Specialist at Michigan State University. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Slavic languages and literature and completed a second Master's degree in instructional design in 2015. Her ongoing teaching and research interests include instructional technology in language teaching, blended learning, and curricular design. She is the editor-in-chief of the FLTMAG, a publication about language learning and technology.
