Faculty Seminar Series on Teaching & Learning

Theme: "The Art of the Engaging, Responsive Lecture"

Instructors “can improve student learning with a series of modest but powerful changes that make a big difference; many of which can be put into practice in a single class period” (J. Lang, Small Teaching).

Come join us as we explore a number of these strategies and approaches in “The Art of the Engaging, Responsive Lecture”

You are invited to join a dynamic learning community by participating in this specially designed workshop series for all faculty (across all disciplines and rank). We’ll share strategies and best practices from research-based pedagogy. Come and meet new colleagues. Great conversations and handouts guaranteed.

Session 4: Make ‘Em Laugh (And You Should): Using Humor in the Classroom

The use of humor is effective in motivating students, relieving anxiety, and building rapport. It is also awesome. Our guest presenter is Lucas Anderson from the Center for Innovation in the Classroom. We’ll talk about why you should bring humor into your class, the types of humor available to you, the types of humor to avoid, and more! Absolutely no giraffes or harmonicas permitted!!
