Open Educational Resources for Teaching and Learning
Sara Benson & Jimi Jones (AA&U's Institute for Open Educational Resources)

We will discuss what Open Educational Resources (OER) are and how they support teaching and learning on campus.

Students on our campus and nationwide are struggling to afford to purchase textbooks for courses in additional to tuition, rent, and other daily expenses. While faculty cannot control the price of campus housing or tuition, we can control the price of textbooks. In fact, using Open Educational Resources (OER), we can bring the cost of textbooks to zero. In this discussion, we will define OER and why they are important as well as how they support teaching and learning on campus. We will also inform participants about OER Incentive grants that are available to them to create, adopt, or adapt OER for their classes. In addition, we will discuss where to find ready-made OER for course content.
