Physics as the poetry of nature
Science communication and storytellingAbstract: Professor diva here! Fun fact, I blew up on social media because I believe physics is the poetry of nature! And like any good poem, I believe physics tells a riveting, emotional story about the world we live in. But physics, unlike poetry, is written in a language spoken by very few people on this planet. That’s where science communication comes into play! Communicating and teaching physics is a process of translating one of the most brilliant inventions humanity has ever come up with, from an esoteric language, to an accessible, engaging, playful dialect spoken by the large population. In this talk, I will present my philosophy and techniques when it comes to breaking down the abstract nature of physics in science communication using visualization and editing, that have gotten me over 185k followers and over 30 million views in the span of 4 months.
Professor Diva's bio: Professor Diva is a theoretical particle physicist, science communicator, heels dancer, and choreographer based in Champaign, Illinois. He combines performing arts, especially heels dancing, and abstract theoretical physics in his innovative “professor diva technique” of teaching physical sciences accessibly through snappy, engaging, and entertaining videos. He is known for his video series “Explaining science in heels,” which gathered tens of millions of views online and introduced a large population to new ways of visualizing abstract topics such as quantum mechanics or particle physics. Academically, his research is in how the strong nuclear force builds matter at a particle level using computer simulations.
