Prof. Monica Hanna will explore the critical challenges facing cultural heritage preservation in Egypt, particularly the devastating impact of looting, damage, and the enduring legacy of colonialism. We will explore how cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), can revolutionize heritage protection efforts and introduce restitution and repatriation topics. The talk will also discuss decolonizing heritage, how the colonial narratives have shaped our understanding of the past, and how repatriation is not only about objects but rather about agency for producing knowledge about the past.
