Session 5: Strategies for Helping Students Learn How to Learn Better

Guest Presenter: Professor Shelly Schmidt, Food Science & Human Nutrition

The main job of our students is to learn. Their success in school and life depends on it. However, research tells us that one of the major intellectual challenges students face upon entering college is managing their own learning. Many students don’t know about or employ effective, evidence-based learning behaviors and strategies. Students need our help to become more effective and efficient learners. We need to help them know not just what to learn, but how to learn.

Thus, the goal of this highly interactive workshop is to empower faculty with techniques that they can use to engage students in learning how to learn practices, as they are teaching the course content.

*This workshop counts towards completion of any of CITL's Teaching Certificates. To learn more about our Teaching Certificate program please visit https://go.illinois.edu/teaching_certificates.
