Quantum Transport and Localization in a Disordered Optical Lattice
Abstract: Understanding how disorder suppresses transport in interacting quantum matter is a central problem in many-body physics. Ultracold atoms in optical lattices provide a controlled platform for studying this question. I will talk about our new near-equilibrium measurement of the relaxation dynamics of a local spin perturbation in our realization of the disordered Bose-Hubbard model. By measuring this relaxation across a wide range of disorder strengths and at multiple lattice depths, we probe how transport evolves toward a disorder-induced insulating regime.
Bio: Nathan Fredman is an eighth-year graduate student in Brian DeMarco's optical lattice lab.
