Join us for a lively discussion as we consider if, when, and how to engage with artificial intelligence as part of the research process in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. We’ll take a behind-the-scenes look at how AI recognizes patterns in text, images, and audio and address ethical, legal, and practical considerations. Along the way, we’ll discuss generating conversations about historic sources through image generation and engaging with AI for Spanish and Portuguese translation. There will be plenty of room for questions!

Presenters:

Prof. Mary Ton: Assistant Professor and Digital Humanities Librarian at UIUC

Prof. Antonio Sotomayor: Associate Professor and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Librarian at t UIUC

Celenia Graves: Experimental Learning and Engagement Librarian for the IDEA Lab
