Title: Plane partitions and Hilbert series
Abstract: Plane partitions, introduced by Percy MacMahon around 1900, are three-dimensional analogues of integer partitions. They have a rich combinatorics and occur naturally in a variety of contexts; for instance, they appear in the representation theory of the general and special linear groups. In this talk, we will discuss how plane partition generating functions appear as Hilbert series of various coordinate rings. In particular, we will discuss a developing project involving families of plane partitions arising from coordinate rings of determinantal varieties.
