Receiving an SBIR award places many requirements on a small business. Roland Garton has helped scores of startups in meeting these requirements. In this session he will provide a high-level overview of administrative and financial systems that need to be established for Government SBIR compliance. He will also mention some common pitfalls and, in keeping with the season, some horror stories where neglected practices rose up to haunt the owners well after the award date.
Our presenter will be Roland Garton, President of Garton Consulting Services and a member of the Illinois FAST Center consultant team. Roland has over three decades of experience with grant development, government contracting, program and project management, training and documentation, and program administration. Garton has written and advised on scores of SBIR proposals worth several million dollars to 9 of the 11 federal SBIR-granting agencies. He is an SBIR workshop leader and national I-Corps participant, and has managed several projects resulting from successful SBIR proposals. In addition, he has set up bookkeeping and timekeeping systems for many SBIR recipients, prepared invoices and Incurred Cost Proposals, and has helped navigate multiple companies through federal audits, many of them conducted by the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA).
