Collaboration with Illinois Public Media, Illinois Community Media Project, and Spurlock Museum

In 1963, 250,000 students boycotted the Chicago Public Schools to protest racial segregation. '63 Boycott connects the forgotten story of one of the largest Northern civil rights demonstrations to contemporary issues around race, education, and youth activism.

The Reel Midwest Film Festival will bring Illinois students, the filmmaker, community organizers, and the broader local public together for a discussion around this historic and current struggle. Reel Midwest is Illinois Public Media’s independent film series that endeavors to find and showcase the best feature, documentary, and short films from Illinois and across the Midwest.

This event is part of the College of Media Annual Theme Series.
