Title: Counting Points: Navigating the Study of Elliptic Curves

Abstract: Elliptic curves are smooth genus one curves that have played a central role in cyber security, number theory,  and geometry.  I will discuss the history and mathematics behind the study of elliptic curves with emphasis on finding integral and rational solutions. Time permitting, I will also discuss a family of elliptic curves which consistently have positive rank.
