Title: An introduction to logarithmic geometry
Abstract: Logarithmic geometry provides a framework for studying compactification and degeneration problems by considering 'algebraic varieties with boundary'. In this talk, we will give an overview of logarithmic geometry. We will start by introducing the basic concepts of log structures and logarithmic schemes. We will then study some examples arising from toric geometry. We will also discuss log smoothness, differentials of log schemes (which may justify the name 'logarithmic'), and explain their 'Betti realizations' to topological manifolds with boundary.
