Introduction to moduli problems I: Construction of coarse moduli space

Moduli problems are deeply studied in algebraic geometry, which raises important ideas such as stack and counting invariants. In this semester, I will give a series of talks on different moduli problems. In the first talk, I will first introduce the commonly used three paths that solve moduli problems and give corresponding examples. And then I will focus on the construction of coarse moduli space of smooth curves, which would be an illustration of the first path. The treatment of the other two paths will be unfolded in later talks.
