Your course will go better if you establish in advance clear and consistent policies regarding attendance, participation, late work, academic integrity, and more. But how much have you thought about the impact of your course policies? Sometimes we implement policies that are familiar, without much investigation of whether they are fair and helpful. In this session, we will investigate how to establish course policies that work and are fair to students. There may not be obvious answers here, so come prepared to think and discuss.
We recommend you also attend the workshop on Course Design on April 4. It is not necessary to attend that first, but you will be in a better position to think about course policies if you already have a good grasp of the overall design of your course.
This workshop counts towards the Graduate Teacher Certificate or the Certificate in Foundations of Teaching.
