Title:
Organizational Learning and Risk Mitigation: A Supply Network PerspectiveAbstract:
When suppliers experience disruptions, they learn how to better prevent and recover from future incidents. As these local improvements accumulate, the supply network can also become more resilient. Drawing on organizational learning, we introduce supply network resilience learning, defined as improvements in network resilience driven by suppliers learning from their own disruptions. We integrate agent-based simulation, experimental design, data analytics, and analytical modeling to study how supplier learning shapes network-level learning. We examine two mechanisms — learning-to-prevent and learning-to-recover — and show that learning-to-prevent yields a disruption-free network as time approaches infinity. Over finite horizons, however, learning-to-recover can drive greater network learning when disruption likelihood is low. We also find that centrally positioned suppliers generally accelerate network learning, except when both disruption risk and diffusion probability are high; under these conditions, noncentral suppliers become more critical. Our framework clarifies when and where supplier learning most effectively strengthens supply network resilience.Speaker's Bio:
