Title: Large Load Interconnection – Challenges and Opportunities
Abstract: Challenges to grid interconnection are not new, but they are constantly evolving. A few years ago, the power industry was focused on finding solutions for interconnection and simultaneous charging of electric vehicles (EVs) that would soon be flooding metropolitan areas. Now, the industry is facing a different challenge. Large loads such as data centers serving artificial intelligence services, blockchain-based currency mining, and EV fleet charging are rapidly emerging with novel load dynamics, creating new opportunities within the industry to support the resiliency and stability of these loads and the electric power grid. This talk will explore the challenges of large loads from a broad industry perspective and provide examples of recent opportunities with which MPR has been involved.
