Title: Linked Selection, Fitness Landscapes, Altruism & Antibiotics
Abstract: My research group works on a variety of question in evolutionary theory, evolutionary ecology, and population genetics. In this talk, I will discuss projects focused on two long standing questions in evolutionary biology, the evolution of altruism and evolution on rugged fitness landscapes. For both questions, I will introduce a potential role for linked selection, which occurs when positive of negative selection in regions neighboring a gene affect the evolution of that gene. Finally, I will discuss how understanding evolution on fitness landscapes can help prevent the evolution of antibiotic resistance.
