An early childhood environment should look, sound, and feel different from an elementary classroom. It should be a safe, nurturing place for children to develop. One of the things that contribute to this feel is the use of positive guidance. Positive guidance means guidance that focuses on building a child’s self-control rather than focusing on stopping the behavior. When a caregiver uses positive guidance techniques, children develop positive self-esteem, self-control, and self-help skills. In addition, positive guidance techniques enhance brain development. In this workshop, we will discuss positive guidance techniques and how to implement them in your child care homes and centers.
