In a dynamic workplace culture, kindness may seem more like a “nice to have” than a need. Employee engagement and retention are critical for organizations of all sizes, and in light of evolving work practices that have given employees more options, values like compassion, understanding, and respect are more important than ever.
Recent NIH research indicates that today’s effective leaders must be more “person-focused” and able to work effectively with people from diverse teams, departments, countries, cultures, and backgrounds. We believe that in the years to come, this will become even more important as leadership can – and should – adapt to our shifting global environment.
Fortunately, kindness in the workplace is a skill you can learn. It plays a key part in emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness. Kinder interactions among leaders and employees can lead to more effective communication, which can drive positive organizational outcomes.
