Learn about preserving, digitizing, and providing access to historical newspapers in your library collections! Staff of the Illinois Newspaper Project will discuss preservation and digitization best practices, how to undergo a newspaper digitization project, and what to do with newspapers once they've been digitized. INP staff will also highlight the Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections as a statewide repository for digitized Illinois historical newspapers and will discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Jessie Knoles is the Newspaper Content Coordinator for the Illinois Newspaper Project, where she manages newspaper digitization projects, digital newspaper donations, and provides instruction and outreach using historical newspapers and digital newspaper collections. She received her MSLIS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

William Schlaack is the Digital Reformatting Coordinator and Coordinator for Digital Preservation Services at the University of Illinois. He discovered his passion for preservation while working in campus archives during his senior year of college, leading him to attend the University of Illinois and graduate with an MSLIS in 2012. William now oversees large scale digitization and reformatting projects, including working with the National Digital Newspaper Program, Internet Archive, and HathiTrust.
