Weaker, Faster, Thinner... Better?
Abstract: The plumbing of an optical quantum network requires three key faculties: measuring photons precisely, routing them quickly, and interfacing heterogeneous nodes. In this talk, we will discuss precision frequency measurements of single photons via weak-value amplification, which can be adapted to measure a photon's arrival time with precision greater than the timing jitter of commercially available single-photon detectors. Secondly, we will present how photons can be routed quickly in a quantum network, specifically focusing on a fiber-based all-optical technique. Finally, we will explore a pathway towards interconnecting photons from nonlinear optical sources with atomic emissions, in order to match sources that are otherwise spectrotemporally disparate.
Bio: Ujaan is a sixth-year graduate research assistant, working with Paul Kwiat. His research focuses on developing photonic resources for quantum networks and metrology.
