University of Illinois alum Minna Ernestine Jewell (1892-1985) was an early twentieth century aquatic ecologist and zoologist who studied midwestern aquatic habitats extensively. Despite her substantial contributions, her work and its impact is not widely known. In honor of Women’s History Month, we invite you to learn about her. Our exhibit includes a freshwater sponge specimen and a microscope (on loan from the Illinois Natural History Survey), so you can get a close look at one of Jewell's favorite study organisms.
Exhibits in Funk ACES Library can be viewed during our open hours. Please see our website for current hours. After 10pm, a valid I-Card is required for building entry.
