In this talk, Dr. Cabral Bigman will discuss integration of social science research in the Center for Research on Programmable Plant Systems (CROPPS). The talk will highlight studies surveying stakeholder perceptions about programmable plants and related emerging technologies. It will also address opportunities and challenges that this kind of research presents for social scientists interested in pursuing interdisciplinary, team science research paths. Dr. Bigman is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at UIUC and serves as CROPPS Associate Director for Public Engagement and Communication. She is an affiliate of the Center for Digital Agriculture, National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Center for Social & Behavioral Science, and the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute. Her research focuses on communication about health, risk, technology, and inequality. She teaches courses on risk communication, health communication, and communication and technology.
