On our first CLACS Talk Series event of Fall 2025, Prof. McKenzie Johnson will discuss the challenges and opportunities of engaging in scholar-activism within the academy. Building on her partnership with CLACS in 2024–2025, Johnson will reflect on her efforts to organize an initiative with environmental defenders in Latin America. While many scholars call to “decolonize” and move away from extractive research practices, institutional barriers often make these objectives difficult to achieve in practice.
